My birthday was on Friday, as was my change-date: making me 25 weeks along! The day was also Friday the 13th, which was cool. But by the time Friday rolls around, I'm generally a total wreck, and this Friday was no different. As a result, the day was less cool than it could hsve been and instead was kind of rough.
I'd gone on a midnight Walmart run with Aubrey Thursday night. It was a blast, but I didn't get to sleep until 2am, and that was no bueno. Then Derek's car wouldn't start in the morning, so I had to take him to work at 6am. I pretty much was up since then, and it was a bad cocktail. Sleep deprivation has a less than pleasant effect on me...
I tried to get up and going as per usual at 7:20ish (should've been 7) to get kids ready for school and get James off to school. I wanted to make the day special, so I made from-scratch pancakes for us all. I had intended to do pancakes with sprinkles to add festivity, but no one wanted them. Party poopers.
James had to be woken up, which rarely works out positively. And he was sleepy and slow and ornery. I hate mornings and being rushed too, so I could certainly relate. But my sleep-deprived state made me less than patient. :( The morning was rough.
Once James was off to school, I tried to crash. Jolie would have none of that, however, as she really wanted me to "play dollyhouse" with her. The result was less than pleasant.
Finally I was able to pawn her off on the neighbors to play, and I fell asleep... Ah... Sleep. I woke up much later than is anticipated, around 12:50pm. Crap! I was supposed to volunteer at J's school at 1:00!! Bah!
I did a quick sponge bath, washed my face, and threw myself together. How lucky was I that I'd showered late the day before and had cooperative, not-too-greasy-yet hair? Oy. Jolie came back (and had already been fed...friends, you're amazing), and we took off in a flash!
We made it!! The kids were already in the story corner, but we hadn't missed them. ((Deep breath)) I took Jolie into the bathroom and fixed her crazy hair. Then we went back and volunteered in the library. James was so glad I made it (bless him for still wanting me around), and it was good to be able to help for a while. We stayed until school was out and then headed home.
I fed the kids an after-school snack and then went to get Derek. Of course, seeing him and having him love on me made the flood gates open. Poor guy. He soothed me and held me and made everything better. How I handled life without him is a mystery to me. xo
Then I lounged on the couch. And life was okay.
At 6pm, my mom showed up to babysit (Thank you, Grandma Marilyn!), we ditched our kids (and Shaughnessy's!) with her, and we headed out with friends to dinner.
Dinner. Was. Awesome.
The food was spectacular; the service was great, and the company was unsurpassed! We had so much fun!! This group of friends is so much fun! I have never been so grateful for a neighborhood placement! Love, love, love them!
((For the record, the friends are: Aubrey and Adam Seeholzer, Rose and Jess Bradfield, and Shaughnessy and Kirk Bingham.))
After dinner, we came home to Mom and the kids. I opened the darling presents the kids had made me, a handmade bracelet from Jolie and necklace from James, and swooned and cooed appropriately. I genuinely love the gifts! Handmade preciousness like that seriously melts my heart! Mmm, my precious babies.
Then we ate cake! ((Better Than Sex Cake! Which at this point in pregnancy, it probably was, lol.)) And man, was it scrumptious! My man knows his way around a kitchen, and I absolutely love that about him. I'm a lucky girl. I'm aware of this.
After all of that, our family crashed. Zzzzz. We were all so wiped out, from the day as well as the week that proceeded it. Fridays are hard around here nowadays. And sleep, even at such an early hour, was a welcome treat.
Such a wonderful birthday, in the end! I am such a lucky lady. Thirties? Bring it on! :)
